First Eddison edition. Octavo. Publisher’s red cloth, lettered gilt, in the original printed dustwrapper.
A very good copy in a very good dustwrapper, a couple of stains to the spine.
The first edition of E.R. Eddison’s translation of Egil’s Saga. His work on Norse and novels of High Fantasy drew the praise of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, the latter calling him “the greatest and most convincing writer of ‘invented worlds’ that I have read”.
