Allen & Unwin issued their first Tolkien calendar in 1973 (The J.R.R. Tolkien Calendar 1974), before turning to individual books as their inspiration, with The Hobbit Calendar 1976; The Lord Of The Rings Calendar 1977; and the The Silmarillion Calendar 1978, which was issued shortly after the September 1977 publication of The Silmarillion.
 
This was the Calendar for the following year, with Tolkien on the cover, and illustrations from different parts of his life to each month.
