First deluxe edition, taken from the sheets of the thirteenth, tenth and tenth impressions respectively. Octavo. Three volumes housed in the Pauline Baynes slipcase. Each volume bound in black buckram with gilt lettering and decoration. All edges gilt.
A very near fine set, the spine of The Two Towers slightly paler as often, but otherwise uncommonly fresh. The slipcase is in fine condition also, and very uncommon thus. The three volumes are often too bulky for the slipcase, causing it to split. All housed in a bespoke clamshell box, with inlays reproducing Bayne’s designs for the slipcase.
One of the most attractive, sought after and rarest editions of The Lord Of The Rings, being one of just 1,000 sets produced in this format.
