A rare, unsophisticated copy of Owen Jones’s masterpiece. Folio. 53 chromolithographed leaves. In the original relievo binding by Remnant and Edmonds for Leighton and Hodge.
One hundred and six full page chromolithographs in red, blue and black.
A near fine copy, very sound, with a little rubbing to the spine ends and corners. Unsophisticated, without repair or restoration, and very uncommon thus.
PROVENANCE: Arthur Winnington-Ingram (1858-1946), Bishop Of London, sold by him at the Fulham Palace sale of August 1939, with the original auction notice secured to the front free endpaper with two pins; sold at that sale to one “O.M. Roynon”, with his ownership inscription to first blank.
A very attractive, unsophisticated copy of one of the most glorious of all Victorian books, owned by the Bishop Of London.
